Subject:  LRB 2392/1; Require proof of citizenship to receive public assistance

Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) estimates that Wisconsin had a 90,000 illegal immigrant population in 2008.   The illegal alien population represents a major burden on the state’s limited fiscal resources, and that burden is borne by Wisconsin taxpayers.

This proposal states that you must be U.S. citizen or a qualifying alien to apply and qualify for public assistance programs.  Any person who applies for these programs must provide documentary proof of citizenship or satisfactory immigration status.
